Beauty Tip: Clean Brushes

Nothing blends better than a dirty brush, I know! Brushes that aren’t washed weekly are full of bacteria and germs and also will fall apart all over your face. ONCE A WEEK you need to use a drop of cloudy shampoo and warm water. Clear shampoo’s are more stripping, while cloudy shampoo’s are more conditioning. Hot water can melt the glue so use warm and let dry laying flat on a towel. Standing up in a cup while drying will warp the wood over time. Also Powder brushes start to shed due to lack of moisture. Use a hair conditioner once a month on your favorite powder, blush, cheek and animal hair eye brushes. Wash your brushes at night before bed. They will be dry and ready to use by morning. via

You can also purchase this Sigma Dry’n Shape for $30! That way the brushes hold their texture while drying.

The Dry’n Shape provides the necessary pressure to bristles to quickly and efficiently remove water from every fibre.  The fabric used to shape the bristles was specially engineered to accelerate water evaporation, resulting in a faster drying time for your brushes.

  1. i must be really gross b/c i never remember to wash my brushes, but I also do not wear makeup every day like i did before kids came along. i usually find myself in mascara and blush these days, not even sure the last time i wore liquid foundation…maybe 2 years. i switched to mineral powder foundation since liquid gets all over anything it touches (kids touch your face a million times). plus i didnt want to get makeup on my kids when covering them in kisses or playing hide & seek under a blanket.
